THANK YOU COFFIN & TROUT FOR REPAIRING MY 1964 ROLEX SUBMARINER
My 1964 Rolex Submariner (model 5513 – in production from 1962 to 1990) had been lost for 20 years. My parents found it in the process of moving. The Hesalite (acrylic) crystal and stainless steel Jubilee band were in poor condition, and the watch no longer worked. I brought it to Coffin and Trout, hoping they might be able to repair it. Ryan Coffin was 100% confident, as an authorized Rolex repair center, they could bring it back. The most challenging aspect of the project was finding an original Rolex crystal for the 1960’s era Submariners (Rolex abandoned acrylic crystals, known for durability, in favor of scratch-resistant sapphires for their Submariners in 1981) . The movement also had to be replaced, rather than repaired. Over time the gasket had failed, allowing moisture to enter and destroy the mechanism. Coffin and Trout reunited me with my watch on August 23, 2016 (that’s the date of the picture I’m including), and I’ve worn it every day since.
