The Coffin & Trout Story

How We Became Arizona’s Master Jewelers

OUR MISSION

In 1984, Randy Coffin and David Trout founded Coffin & Trout Jewelers with a few simple yet vital values:

Create jewelry that is unique, beautiful and well-crafted.
Offer those designs at a good and fair value.
Provide exceptional customer service.

These pillars remain as fundamental to our business now as they were at the beginning.

OUR FOUNDERS

RANDY COFFIN

Since 1984, the ethos of “looking forward” has guided our business. Through research and cutting-edge technologies, we strive to stay at the forefront of production and design and further our education to ensure that we produce the finest jewelry and most accurate information. Your decision to include us in life’s most important moments is not taken lightly, and we’re dedicated to exceeding your expectations.

To those new to the Coffin & Trout family, we give a warm welcome and hope we can make any occasion in your life that much more special. To our existing customers, we thank you for your support and are grateful to have established personal connections with so many of you. Looking ahead, we remain committed to offering you exquisitely designed pieces that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

DAVID TROUT

The late David Trout, one of our founding partners, left an unforgettable impression on many people’s lives, and his spirit and legacy will live on in Coffin & Trout and all of the family members and friends he left behind. Renowned for his jewelry design, David earned numerous accolades, including for his Pagoda ring, which is now on display in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

Together with his business partner Randy Coffin, he created unique, beautiful and functional jewelry with a level of customer service that earned them the respect of customers and colleagues. David’s infectious smile, quick wit and genuine manner were the reasons why people were drawn to him. His charm and honesty were why they stayed. Dave, you are greatly missed.

The Legacy Continues

RYAN COFFIN

Growing up in and around the store, Ryan Coffin developed a love for fine jewelry and precision craftsmanship at a young age — a love that would blossom into a life-long passion.

Ryan formally joined the family business in 2011, becoming an integral part of our dedicated team. After a decade of observing, learning, and refining his skills under the expert guidance of his father, Randy Coffin, he developed a discerning eye for quality and detail.

In 2021, a new chapter began in the Coffin & Trout story when Randy passed the torch to Ryan. Today, as President, Ryan is extremely proud to now carry on the legacy that his father and Dave Trout worked so hard to build.

Under Ryan’s direction, Coffin & Trout continues to uphold its commitment to unparalleled quality and design. His leadership ensures that every piece meets our rigorous standards and continues to embody the exquisite craftsmanship and innovative design for which Coffin & Trout is renowned.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY

It is an integral part of this company’s culture to be actively involved in the community that gives us so much. From the beginning, Randy, Dave and their employees have felt a strong responsibility to give back to those around them. Over the years Coffin & Trout has given countless hours and more than $400,000 in merchandise donations and financial contributions.

Randy Coffin serves as a Board Member for the Tempe Diablos. Since 1968, members have devoted their time and energy to promoting, organizing and supporting community-based programs that focus on youth, education and the city of Tempe. This is accomplished by providing leadership and resources that create worthwhile opportunities for our Arizona youth. The Tempe Diablos are the 2nd largest private provider for Arizona State University scholarships.

Dave Trout served as a Board Member for the Phoenix Suns Charities. Incorporated in 1987, its mission is to be a constant leader in improving the quality of life in our community by benefiting organizations that assist the needs of children in Arizona. Since its inception, Phoenix Suns Charities, the team and their fans and sponsors have donated more than $10 million to worthy Arizona organizations.

Our sales manager, Dean Reiter, was accepted to join the Board of Directors in 2009 and is actively contributing to the work of the Phoenix Suns Charities.

In 2009, Brad Gould and Randy Coffin began the Dave Trout Memorial Golf Tournament to honor their friend and his commitment to charities he loved. With the amazing support of David’s parents, Marty and Barbara Trout, and the efforts of his family and friends, this event has been a resounding success.
