We are so pleased to announce that one of our commissioned pieces has been named an American Gem Trade Association Spectrum Awards winner for 2020.

Here at Coffin & Trout Fine Jewelers, we have a passion for working with some of the world’s finest gemstones, as well as with collectors and patrons of these gems. This year, we have once again felt rewarded by our affinity for creating intriguing designs that thrill the imagination and highlight the unique colors and beauty of a particular gem.

We’re excited to announce that a piece we were commissioned to design has been named an AGTA Spectrum Awards winner for 2020, for the 14th time. These awards are the result of the most respective creative competition in the industry.

This custom magnetic brooch was commissioned by the owners of the world-renowned jewelry and gem collection, Somewhere in the Rainbow. It features a 13.03ct chrome tourmaline, with eight total 1.58ct tapered baguette cut diamonds arrayed from each end. The brooch is crafted of 18k yellow gold and platinum and is accented with 120 round brilliant cut diamonds, six purple spinels and 32 green tourmalines.

Here’s what the collector remarked about the piece and our collaboration:

In 2013, we were visiting with Randy Coffin and Catherine Fitzgibbon at their fabulous jewelry store, Coffin and Trout, in Phoenix. We saw a fabulous green tourmaline that glowed like kryptonite!

“Upon sending the gem to AGL, it was given a chrome tourmaline label. Needless to say, we were all thrilled and Randy was excited to design with the stone as a collection piece.

Fast forward to 2019 and Randy puts his magical creative mind to work.

“The result is superb!! Named Magic Man because of the most fantastic magnetic closure I’ve ever seen, it locks tightly and allows the piece to ‘float’ on the lapel. The backside is as intriguing as the top and the effects of the baguette diamonds are dynamic. The melee green tourmaline, spinel and diamond accents are perfectly placed for fantastic detailed finishing.

“Another Spectrum award-winning design from Randy Coffin for Somewhere in the Rainbow and we couldn’t be happier to share this moment with our dear friends at Coffin & Trout Fine Jewelers. A relationship we treasure and people we admire and take inspiration from! Congratulations Randy!”
